My Social Media Dilemma šŸ¤”

Writer's picture: LillyLilly

Iā€™m feeling torn after watching the Netflix Original Documentary šŸ˜†

I actually love Instagram more than I do Facebook. I didnā€™t set out to have so many accounts but it happened šŸ˜‚ I have 4 private IGs for family and close friends and 3 public. Two were built for various businesses, more like hobbies that are trying to generate a meager income to supplement retirement šŸ¤£

The reality is that Iā€™m not concerned about likes nor do I work very hard to get more followers. I just enjoy creating interesting posts and love learning from followers, especially about chicken dilemmas šŸ˜‚. I absolutely love photography & videography. Ā Creating memories of my children, and my grand children keeps my brain sharp and thereā€™s always that next skill I am challenged to work on that gives me a sense of accomplishment that just feels good. Plus itā€™s fun, so much fun!

That said, I understand the difference of how social media has a downside for younger generations, and my grandchildren. Ā I canā€™t imagine being a parent in this ever changing world we live in now.Ā

My daughter reminded me that it is a form of addiction and some of us much more than others but if we want to set a good example for our grandchildren we need to make an extra effort to put away our devices and be present with them if weā€™re lucky enough to be with them, especially during these troubling times.Ā

The Netflix Documentary is a good reminder and eye opener and the advice at the end is really good advice, especially for young children, even teenagers.Ā

I love technology but I also have to make sure it doesnā€™t ruin me šŸ¤Ŗ Of course Iā€™m guilty as charged but, and thereā€™s always a but full of excuses šŸ˜‚, there are worse addictions than creating and editing postsā‰ļø

Am I going to closed my IG or FB account? No, nor will I close my Twitter account. I use twitter to make swim class announcements for the YMCA only, and donā€™t read other tweets šŸ˜† I share tweets from my public IGs on my personal Twitter but donā€™t really engage in Twitter at all. I use Pinterest mainly to search for recipes šŸ˜ƒ and share my Kauai Phone Bags.

Iā€™ve never suffered from paranoia, and donā€™t spend a lot of time worrying about too much.Ā

Iā€™d love to hear anyoneā€™s opinions on this subject.Ā

Harmonyā€™s comment šŸ‘šŸ½: Beautiful post Ma. Everyone has been saying to watch the Social Dilemma and I will. But I already get the dangers. Everything in moderation and both sides exaggerate the facts/lies and there is so much fake news out there!
